Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about ANSMCO, our Strategic Administration Partnership model, and responsible minerals development in Nepal.

About ANSMCO(3)

ANSMCO (Australia-Nepal Strategic Minerals Consortium) is a Strategic Administration Partnership supporting Nepal to responsibly develop a national portfolio of strategic minerals with high ESG standards and sovereign ownership.

No. ANSMCO is a programme administrator, not a mining operator. We support governance, permitting coordination, and programme administration while resources remain 100% Nepal-owned.

ANSMCO is headquartered in Walkerville, South Australia, with operations focused on supporting strategic mineral development in Nepal.

Partnership Model(3)

ANSMCO acts as an exclusive administrator supporting the Government of Nepal. We provide governance frameworks, technical expertise, and programme coordination while Nepal retains 100% ownership of resources in the ground.

No. This is not a concession and not a transfer of ownership. Resources in the ground remain 100% Nepal-owned. The model is designed to preserve sovereign ownership while improving governance and delivery discipline.

Joint custodianship means shared oversight of licences and administration between Nepal and ANSMCO to support due process, compliance, and transparent governance.

Strategic Minerals(3)

The programme focuses on strategic minerals critical for the clean energy transition, including lithium, rare earth elements, and other minerals essential for renewable energy technologies and electric vehicles.

Nepal holds significant untapped strategic mineral potential. The global shift toward critical minerals creates a unique window for responsible development, and Nepal's government is actively seeking responsible international partnerships.

The national portfolio is structured across four regional phases: Makwanpur (programme initiation), Upper Mustang (cultural sensitivity), Chitwan (national priorities), and Baitadi (expanded optionality). Each phase is designed for progressively higher assurance.

ESG & Governance(3)

ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) here means controls and practices that guide programme administration — designed for assurance, accountability, and public trust. It includes sensitive-area planning, community partnership, and auditable reporting.

Through safety-by-design principles, disciplined recordkeeping, auditable reporting, sensitive-area planning, cultural heritage respect, community partnership pathways, and intergenerational equity considerations.

ANSMCO supports a long-term framing for intergenerational equity, including a future fund / sovereign wealth concept designed to provide durable national benefit for Nepal.
